Brits Vs US

Friends, let us deal with a fundamental question now :),... when it comes to contemporary music, which country do you think that it is the world superpower, the UK or the US? I remember that I gave that a thought some time ago, and I had recently a chat with my wife about it. Let us imagine that we try to balance music legends from each side of the ocean. OK? Let's start: Bruce Springsteen (US), The Police (UK), Frank Sinatra (US), U2 (UK), ??(US), The Beatles (UK), ?? (US), The Rolling Stones (UK), ?? (US), Deep purlple (UK), ??(US), Pink Floyd (UK), ??(US), Dire Straits (UK) ... ????, It's just me doing something wrong or does the UK actually outnumber the US on this matter? Food for thought anyway

Rock in Rio 2008

Friends, I just wanted to drop a couple of lines about what I experienced last weekend. As you may have already guessed by the title of the post I had the chance to attend to Rock in Rio in Madrid. Just when we knew that The Police was coming to town we decided to book the tickets right away. I went there with my wife, and I can only say that it was worth every cent!. I am firmly convinced that what is killing music industry these days is by far the lack of creativity rather that P2P networks.

If only they came with a User's Manual

Try to visualize for a moment the situation. Sunday afternoon, tired, lots of things to prepare for the next day, ... all of a sudden the older son "remembers" that he has an exam the next day ... don't panic, stay calm, there still some time to prepare, provided that you have the text books ... that he forgot at school on Friday. Mom calls some other families looking for help only to realize that they are exactly in the same situation (surreal, but you feel some relief with that). Eventually one of the calls succeeds and we got the topics for the exam the next day (it was obviously a girl, they are far more organized than boys). However, in the confusion of the situation, a small porcelain figure falls and we fix it with super-glue while we talk on the phone, ... big mistake. Those were the ten seconds that the little one needed to get her hands on the super-glue. Her both hands were messed, and it took us a while to fix the whole thing. New header

For those who do not know yet, the left part of the header shows the (explosive) creativity of my older son. Eventually, last weekend I found the time to upgrade the header in order include as well some excerpts from my little girl, painting (as usual) a pink castle. Hope you enjoy it!

Long time no see

Folks, it's been quite a while since I made my last post in English, about a year actually (shame on me!). Anyway, I started the year promising myself to post here more regularly. I am currently in Brussels in the middle of a very pinkfloidian day (Partagas dixit). I will meet some good friends tonight though for a dinner which promises to be very pleasant. As you may have noticed the former domain name (www.wirtanenblog.com) has been kidnapped by some guys who expect to make some bucks out of it (good luck!). As a consequence, my weblog has re-born as www.blogwirtanen.com, and it comes younger and with more energy than ever, ... stay tuned!

Reporting live from Palm Coast , FL

In the middle of a business/pleasure trip to Palm Coast/New York. I am currently in Jacksonville on my way to NY, where I will meet my SO (significant other as some say :)) and a couple of good old friends (my second familiy I should say). On may to FL, Continental lost my lugagge. They promised that they would deliver my luggage at the "wee hours" of the morning next day. Being a non-native english speaker it took me some seconds to figure out the meaning of such expression. I kind of find it a bit funny though. Anyway, they delivered, and my lugagge was finaly there on time. That reminds me when my lugagge was lost for the first time. I was going to Frankfurt, and Lufthansa sent it to Santiago de Chile ... nice try!

Christmas

Christmas are coming. Prepare your wallet and forget about losing weight with that neverending diet. I particularly like this time though. I have lots of plans to meet good old friends, and to enjoy Christmas eve and Christmas Day with the family. For those who do not know already, in Spain we expand Christmas until January 6th, in which we celebrate the "Three Kings Day". Be warned, a holiday marathon is coming up!

Nokia E61

I must admit it ... I'm a gadget freak!: PDAs, Bluetooth GPS, Bluetooth headsets, laptops, ... go figure! My new toy is a Nokia E61 smartphone. I was always somehow reluctanct when it comes to blackberrys, but when I saw that Nokia decided to jump with this device I decided to give it a try. It has been two weeks since I have this little joy and I am delighted. It has IR, bluetooth, WIFI, GSM (4 bands), GPRS, 3G. You certainly can not be more connected (with the exception of hooking up to a satellite, I must say). Still a lot of features to explore, but so far I have my email up and running which is the thing that I like the most.

All Saints Day

All Saints day. Incredible traffic jams may be seen on the way to the cemetery near the city. Thousands of people in line to visit their loved ones who are not with us anymore. I do not see at all the point for dedicating a specific day a year for that. I treasure the memories of the people I loved, whenever they come to my mind. It is my way to honour them and I would like to be remembered in the same manner.
